3 Killer Tips for Speed Picking Guitar

Hey Guitar Heads!

Here's a quick lesson of what you should be doing at all times to gain the maximum impact from your speed picking techniques.

First and foremost, it's never too late to improve upon a technique you may think you already have down. Or worse, having developed an in-correct picking habit and can't seem to break it or even realize it.

Here's a few killer tips to follow:
  1. Use a firm pick - Preferably HEAVY - Preferably NYLON
  2. Use the very TIP of the pick - I'm talking about the depth of a hair folks!
  3. Use ALTERNATE picking ONLY - this simply means down-up-down-up-down-up etc...
  4. Use a METRONOME to practice with daily.
  5. Use your guitar practice time wisely.

One thing that many guitar players seem to have in common is that they don't really know how to practice properly. This is a whole other topic that I'll dig into in later days, but it is important that you know a few things about practicing properly.

When you practice your guitar playing, play with a metronome and find a number on the dial that lets you play the riff or lick at a speed you can comfortably play repetitive over and over without mistakes.

Not 80% of it perfect and 20% sloppy, not 95% perfect and 5% sloppy, All of it perfect.

Look at the clock, then play the (riff/lick) 100 times in a row. Count them. 100 times.

Notice when you're done playing 100 times, it really didn't take that long. You'll notice the improvements taking place immediately though. This gets really exciting!!

Use the exact above technique to practice for a half hour solid. No breaks.

If you do this correctly you'll get more out of a half hour than most people would get out of 3 hours of non-productive practice.

Take this to the bank! If you want to sharpen your speed picking skills to a razors edge, this is where it's at my friends.

Check back soon as I'll Be posting more killer insider guitar information.
